British aerospace venture Zero Emissions Aerospace, operating as ZeAero%, has unveiled an initiative to modify a widely used business aircraft, the Cessna Caravan, into a zero-emission transport aircraft.

The startup intends to replace conventional turboprop engines with advanced liquid hydrogen fuel cell propulsion systems. Under this development concept, the retrofitted utility planes are targeted to achieve an operational flight range of 400 nautical miles while generating no carbon emissions during regional cargo and passenger missions.

By utilizing liquid hydrogen rather than gaseous storage, the conversion project aims to maximize energy density while reducing onboard weight and volume demands. The company’s strategy focuses on delivering practical, sustainable retrofits for existing short-haul regional airframes, leveraging established aircraft designs to accelerate market adoption. Through this initiative, ZeAero% seeks to establish a viable commercial pathway toward decarbonizing regional air transport networks.

For decades, business aircraft manufacturers have pioneered propulsion systems that increase fuel efficiencies. That innovative work is also accelerating the introduction of new eco-friendly aircraft that use hybrid, electric and even hydrogen-powered propulsion.
